Product Designer

Pod

London, Hybrid (1-2 days in office) · £60,000 - £70,000

Our Digital Design team is looking for a new Product Designer.

Here is what our Senior Product Designer says about the role:

“This is a brilliant opportunity for a Product Designer who really cares about their craft and wants to see the impact of their work. You’ll have the freedom to shape meaningful parts of our mobile experience, work closely with Product and Engineering, and solve real customer problems as we continue to evolve our app. We’re looking for someone with fresh ideas, great attention to detail and a real curiosity for how we can make the experience better.”

What you will do

  • Design across the mobile app: Produce polished, pixel-perfect, user-centred designs for key areas of the app. Bring fresh ideas and challenge safe options where a better experience can be created.

  • Maintain a high bar for craft: Use Figma and Miro confidently, maintain handover-ready design files, test designs after build and use animation or motion when it improves the experience.

  • Think in journeys, not just screens: Consider the complete customer journey, map experiences, identify pain points and proactively recommend solutions.

  • Contribute to the design system: Create new components, improve existing patterns and work closely with Engineers to maintain consistency between design and development.

  • Run research end to end: Plan, facilitate and synthesise customer research, choosing suitable methods and sharing insight across the wider team.

  • Plan and facilitate workshops: Create clear agendas, use appropriate frameworks, keep sessions focused and turn discussions into clear actions and next steps.

  • Interrogate briefs before designing: Build a full understanding of the problem, challenge assumptions and connect design decisions to customer and business goals.

  • Own workload and outcomes: Manage projects day to day, communicate progress, take ownership of blockers and bring in senior support when needed.

  • Build accessibility in from the start: Apply accessibility principles independently and consistently, auditing designs against WCAG 2.2 AA.

  • Share your craft: Develop your own design practice while sharing knowledge and helping raise design capability across the team.

What you will bring

We think this role would suit someone with solid mobile app design experience and a genuinely customer-centred approach.

  • Relevant industry experience: Experience designing digital products within home energy, including solar, battery storage, heat pumps or EV charging, or another complex hardware-adjacent environment.

  • A strong portfolio: Examples of polished, user-centred design, thoughtful problem-solving and clear outcomes, ideally in mobile products.

  • Solid design fundamentals: Strong understanding of mobile usability, interaction patterns and accessibility standards, including WCAG.

  • Independence with support: Confidence owning projects while knowing when to involve senior support for larger or more complex challenges.

  • Facilitation and communication skills: Ability to run productive workshops, adapt communication for different audiences, and proactively share progress and blockers.

  • Comfort with data and AI: Experience using metrics, data and testing to improve designs, alongside an understanding of where AI tools add value and where their limits lie.

  • Attention to detail and organisation: Strong ownership of project outcomes and the ability to identify conflicts and risks early.

  • Strong Engineering collaboration: Ability to work closely with Engineers, understand technical constraints and make pragmatic design decisions.

  • A customer-centred approach: Ground design decisions in customer insight, research and real user behaviour rather than assumptions.

What is in it for you

This is an opportunity to join Pod at an exciting point in the evolution of our app, with design playing an increasingly important role in the experience we create for customers.

You will have real ownership of meaningful areas of the product, designing mobile experiences used by thousands of customers while working closely with Product, Engineering and our Senior Product Designer.

It is a role where you can bring your own ideas, challenge how things are done and see the impact of your work while continuing to develop your craft across Product Design, research, accessibility, motion and design systems.
