Design Handoff

Designers pass finished work to engineering with enough specification, rationale and context that the built product matches the intended experience. Use it whenever a design moves from the design tool to implementation, or when work passes between teams. A solid handoff tells developers which designs are final, how they behave, why decisions were made, and where to find documentation, assets and the design system, and it keeps a channel open for questions and feedback while the build proceeds. Teams reduce rework by involving developers early, agreeing on a shared vocabulary, and documenting behaviour rather than assuming intent carries over. Where a team works closely, they may treat working prototypes as living specs so that no fixed handoff moment exists at all.
